Join us for our second and last pilgrimage for the school year. This pilgrimage will be put on by Catholic Church Tours and is entitled East meets West.

This walking tour especially welcomes CRECHE families with young children to encounter the Catholic Church in her Ukrainian rite – but all are welcome! We will start with a sturdy Roman Catholic Church built in honor of a noble patron and Roman Empress, St Helen. The Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St Nicholas, will be another stop – appropriate not only as seat of the Eparchy, but also since he is the patron of children. St Volodymyr and Olha, as pictured, reveals something of mysteries of the transcendent through iconography and its history. This guided walking tour will be approximately .3 miles one way. Optional Entrance to the Ukrainian National Museum with its temporary exhibit of ancient Icons that is scheduled at the end of our tour is $5 per person ages 12 and older, in addition to the tour ticket – payable at entrance. Your guide will be able to point you to area restaurants and other points of interest after the tour as well.

Where: Meet at St Helen, 2315 W. Augusta Blvd. Chicago, IL 60622 at 10:00AM

Cost: Special cut rate for your CRECHE families: $35 per family. Tickets must be purchased in advance and no refunds. Those not part of a CRECHE family will pay the usual rate of $35/adult, $30 Senior, $20 Youth. Transportation is not included.

Parents may drop off kids at St Helen, go a few blocks and parking at the Volodymyr and Olha lot, and walking back to join the rest of the group so that its just a one way walk for the little ones.

If the weather is too cold for eating outside there is a nearby cultural center if families bring lunches with them and its too cold to eat outside. Small Ukrainian restaurants are not far away as well as others and a few good small groceries of ‘foreign’ foods that are a little world unto themselves, and in my estimation, better than a tourist shops for bringing home something from somewhere else entirely.
